Type Locality and Naming

Named after Uchkolsay, southwestern Gissar. G.Yu. Alferov et al., 1969.

Synonym: Uchkolsay Suite, Учколсайская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Lacustrine-alluvial brownish and brownish-gray clays and siltstone (aleurolites) with subordinate sandstones. Thickness 120m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

With erosion, it lies on the Kyzylchin Fm and Paleogene

Upper contact

conformably overlain by the Khozhalchin Fm

Regional extent

Southwestern Gissar, Beshkent Depression. The clay-silt (aleurolite) rocks of the Uchkolsay Fm form the lower part of the Tandyrchin Fm, from the composition of which they were distinguished as an independent.

Contains ostracods - Potamocypris lunaris Schn., P. sp., Cyclocypris sp., Limnocythere depressa Schn., L. cinctura Mand., L. muschketovi Bod., L. ex gr. longuaris Bod., Eucypris koktalensis Bod.


Age 

The stratigraphic name, A.A. attributed it to the middle-late Miocene (61). According to B.I. Pinhasov (144), upper Pliocene. In the depressions of southwestern Gissar and Kyzylkum, similar silty-clayey (aleurolite-argillaceous) rocks form the lower part of the Dengizkul Fm.
